Cleo's Bath

It's totally normal to go away for the weekend on a backpacking trip, 1 day after you get back from nearly two weeks abroad, right? Yes? Oh, good, because that's what happened here.

Hans and I had talked about visiting Cleo’s Bath in the peak of the summer. Unfortunately, our schedules didn’t overlap with an availability until the first weekend of September, which is when we found ourselves making our way to the series of natural pools.

It’s a simple 4 mile hike to the Baths, which are traditionally 2 main pools, formed into large granite rocks by the rushing snow melt from eastern mountains. Additionally, there are hundreds of smaller pools that dot the granite rocks in all directions. We were a little too late in the season to find running water, so we didn’t actually swim (or have a water source to replenish our packs with), but we enjoyed hiking and scrambling around on the granite rocks, finding ways to cross the pools without going in.

Lina came along for the adventure and hiked in with no problem (even up a steep chimney scramble). She started exploring on Sunday, full of excitement, but after slipping down steep rock faces twice (once ending in the water), she quickly lost her confidence and was happy to be given plenty of assists — or just downright carried.
