New York 2015: Monday

Monday was the day I was most looking forward to, as it had a visit to The Museum of the City of New York on the schedule, to see the Paul Rand exhibit, Everything is Design. It was fantastic—so much great work in one tiny room. Eric and I couldn’t stop snapping photos, wanting to remember all the bits of inspiration. Because we got there close to 10am, when they open, we had the space to ourselves for most of our visit. I can’t speak of it highly enough!

The rain was still coming down in sheets by the time we were ready to go, so we decided to head to MoMA to wait it out. (First we stopped at Beyoglu for lunch, and it was fantastic). As you might expect, lots of other people had similar thoughts and the museum was transformed into a 5 floor circus. We didn’t last very long before we jumped ship and headed to Chelsea to walk the Highline.

Luckily, after clearing away the crowds for us, the rain stopped in time for our visit. I wasn’t prepared for how impressive it would be. The detailing and caliber of execution were inspiring. Even more so, the fact that a motivated group of people could petition the city to take on such a visionary project and that the city would. We walked the entire length, starting at 34th to Gansevoort. We strolled through the Meatpacking District/Chelsea before heading to Mood to try to source fabric for the quilt we’re working on. Despite 3 floors of fabric and notions, we left empty-handed. Finding the right cotton is surprisingly difficult!

For dinner, we headed back to East Village for The Bao. Aside from our meal in Brooklyn, this was the only less than stellar meal we had. The food was good, but the timing was off. After dinner, Eric insisted that I see the hoopla of Milk Bar, so we walked over, ordered cookies and hot chocolate, were underwhelmed, and headed home to begin packing.
