Overheard at our neighborhood corner store, on a lovely summer day of last year: a young girl on crutches holds a peach tightly and looks up innocently at her mother.
"Momma, this peach looks absolutely scrumptious! Can I get it, pretty please?"
Her Mom, whose focus on the produce she is sorting through remains uninterrupted, replies, "Honey, I don't think that peach came from the organic bin. You need to go put that back."
